SHOPIFY UNITE 2016: DAY 2

PUBLISHED: MARCH 23, 2016

Day 2 of Shopify Unite started with a heartfelt AMA with Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke. The time was spent asking and answering pre-selected questions from the community of varying quality and complexity, but overall time well spent.

The AMA revealed a personal side to the CEO - his love for Canada, code, family and, for a reason still unclear to me, a deep passion for virtual reality.

MY FAVORITE: UX/UI

This was followed by my favorite session of the conference: user experience (UX) and design (UI). A Shopify designer took us through examples of good design and bad design with a strong focus on crafting unique experience and to question everything on the page.

If an element doesn't have a strong and obvious function to the purchase process, it is most likely getting in the way of the shopping experience. Most notably were two examples of good design:

Boutique sneaker/lifestyle designer and retailer Online retailer where your mouse turns into a milkshake, that I can only presume brings all the boys to the yard.
